Float design for CSIRO designed by Popology

CSIRO x Mardi Gras

CSIRO approached us to create their presence at the 2024 Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. The aim this year was to emphasise and amplify the science factor. With the theme ‘Science for a Rainbow Future’ we designed, managed and delivered the float and costumes for 80 marchers. Sparkles mandatory.

Our main priorities for the deliverables included ensuring inclusivity through costume choices, sustainability (biodegradable glitter only!), sourcing from suppliers that reflect the community’s authenticity, prioritising Indigenous suppliers where possible, and ensuring the overall theme was a blend of STEM elements and pride celebration.

The centre piece for the ‘sexy scientists’ to rally around was affectionately dubbed ‘The Love Machine’ – complete with whirring cogs and coloured smoke to pump out the love and the good vibes throughout the parade.

We LOVED working with Popology. LOVED it.

You are a great team; creative, professional, anticipated needs, didn’t get cranky when I had random requests (Oh let’s make Indigenous capes?!!), attention to detail... all so good!
